 Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique attended it as chief guest. Presided over by Chairman of the Department Dr Zahid A Chowdhury it was addressed by Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain as special guest. Darko Jordanov, Deputy Head of Delegation, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delivered the 10th Foundation Day Lecture on \"ICRC and the promotion of peace and security of Bangladesh.\" Arefin Siddique said, \"we value the culture of peace very passionately. We fought the War of Liberation for ensuring peace and stability in the region of South Asia. Our entire education system is dedicated to cultivate and preserve peace and to strengthen the climate of peace by creating deliberate obstacles to war and conflict.\" He said peace education is gaining popularity across the world. There is a growing demand for peace education in Bangladesh. Quest for peace necessitates a dense network of peace lovers, peace makers, peace educators, peace negotiators, peace leaders, peace speakers, peace campaigners, peace teachers and over and above, peace trainers and peace learners. The DU VC said, \"The pursuit of peace is the pursuit of truth. Peace is hope, peace is courage, peace is beauty, peace is secularity, peace is security, peace is equality, peace is mission, peace is vision, peace is freedom, peace is commitment, peace is liberty, peace is unselfishness, peace is an orientation and so on. Peace for us is honesty, transparency, dignity, decency, democracy and fundamental rights, freedom of thought and expression and action.\" |
